The film is about a young woman who is raped and then becomes pregnant. As a result she also suffers from depression since the violent attack and is seeing a psychiatrist (played by Emma Thompson).

We see that she has been transferred to a new doctor. her daughter is now 17 years old (played by Emma Watson) and her mother controls her stopping her from going into the real world and she shows a lot of resentment towards her as she is a constant reminder of the rape. daughter doesn't know about what happened when in her new psychiatrists office and sees her husband (played by Jude Law) who was the man that raped her and she starts becoming obsessed with him desperate for revenge - she begins following him, waiting for a chance to ruin his life for he ruined hers.

Obsessing over him, stalking his every move. Her daughter escapes out of her room one evening and goes into the wood near her home, he comes across her and attempts to rape her, she screams and he looks down, and sees how young and defenseless she is, in this moment she escapes from him crying and runs back into the house.

Feeling as though he is being followed he begins becoming paranoid, and has recurring nightmares over the crimes he committed. One evening her mother leave the notes of doctor on a table, the daughter finds it after discovering what happened to her mum after the abuse she got from her mum all her life, she goes to the address, walks in on her mother screaming to her psychiatrist that it was her husband who raped her, daughter came to shoot her mum, pulls a gun talking about her obsession with keeping her from the world then turned and shouts and this was because of you, she turns the gun on her father and shoots.
